The criminal justice system is summarised by these agencies:

One of the main goals should be that the criminal justice system of all countries of the world should deliver justice for all which is known as due process whereby the criminally convicted are punished which stands for ‘just deserts’ theory of punishment and the convicted are supported by the criminal justice system (like restorative justice and prisons) to stop future crime and to lead a law-abiding life style after serving their sentence.
One of the other goal of the criminal justice system at this century is to help victims of crime and protect the innocent people and vulnerable (example of it is children).
The criminal justice system is also responsible for detecting crime and bringing it to justice which implements by police force. The purpose of the courts is to collecting fines and to sentence without any prejudice. The Probation system’s main purpose and objectives lie in the supervision of community sentences, presenting the courts with Pre-Sentence Reports and bringing back to court those who breach their community sentence which might resulting in custodial punishment.
The criminal justice system today is represented by voluntary organisations and private contractors.

 

Police recorded crime show that the rate of offences has increased during the pest ten years. however, police clear-up rates remain low and have resulted in a decrease in public confidence in the criminal justice system. As mentioned above, there has been a wealth of Criminal Justice legislation over the past ten years.

The National Criminal Justice Board’s strategic plan is increasing public confidence in the criminal justice system giving victims and witnesses a high standard of service, and court orders.
The 42 local Boards are made of local chief police officers, CPS, the NPS, HM Courts Service, YOTs and the Prison Service. Their main objectives centre on:

• Improvement of local services to victims and witnesses
• Targeting prolific and potentially dangerous offenders
• Ensuring the fair charges against offenders, and if that is at the right time or not
• Increasing the number of court trials
• Increasing the number of warrants that are enforced
• Ensuring that the local CJS services quality
• searching about what matters most to local people and local community and minority ethnic communities and other minority groups.
